DVD and DVD-R Frequently Asked Questions

1. I live outside the USA, does Adventure Productions DVD and DVD-R have a "regional code", "country code", or "zone lock"?
No. Adventure Productions DVDs do not have a "regional code", "country code", or "zone lock". Background: Some movie studios use "regional code", "country code", or "zone lock" to control the home release of movies in different countries because theater releases aren't simultaneous. A movie may come out on video in the U.S. when it's just hitting screens in Europe. Adventure Productions is not concerned with this issue so we do not use "regional codes", "country codes", or "zone locks".

2. Will the Adventure Productions DVD or DVD-R play in my PAL and SECAM player?
Yes, Adventure Productions DVD and DVD-R will play in your PAL, and your newer SECAM player. The MPEG video on DVD is stored in digital format, but it's formatted for one of two mutually incompatible television systems: NTSC and PAL/SECAM. Therefore, there are two kinds of DVDs. Some players only play NTSC discs, others play PAL and NTSC discs.

All DVD players sold in PAL countries play both NTSC and PAL discs. Modern TVs in most SECAM countries can also read PAL signals, so you can use a player that only has PAL output. The only case in which you need a player with SECAM output is for older SECAM-only TVs and you'll probably need a SECAM RF connection.

3. Will the DVD-R play in my player?
DVD-R is compatible with most newer (2 years old or less) DVD drives and players. A player with the DVD Forum's Multi is guaranteed to read DVD-R discs. Check your players user manual to verify compatibility with DVD-R.
